From a former 1st Chair percussionist, I really enjoyed the rhythm of this piece -- not overbearing (unlike pop music since the 1990s), just enough to easily keep time. My foot was tapping while listening to the smooth melodies. It's upbeat, hopeful. I like it. 👍
That means a lot, cause I sometimes feel I don't know what the hell I'm doing in terms of percussion. Cheers, man!
@@anakarada Of all the percussion instruments I've played, the tympani and chimes (aka tubular bells) were my favorites. They can really set the mood of a piece, from exciting pomp to serious like "Off the Map" by Two Steps From Hell, "O Fortuna" by Carl Orff, "Fanfare for the Common Man" by Aaron Copland, or the opening of "Also Sprach Zarathustra" (So Spoke Zoroaster) by Richard Strauss. The chimes can be joyous, like a lot of bells ringing in celebration or an ominous "For Whom the Bell Tolls" type. Good examples would be "Tubular Bells" by Mike Oldfield, in the 3rd act of "Heaven and Hell, Part 2" by Vangelis (tympani are also used for effect in this piece, especially in the 2nd act). Snares can be used to punctuate words, such as places in "Lorelei" by Styx. Another song with excellent percussion of different types is "Against the Wind" by Máire Brennan (she's the older sister of Enya and also part of the Irish group, Clannad; her name is pronounced in Gaelic as "Moya").
